Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach

Native Fish Awareness Week

I would like to warmly invite you to attend the official launch of the Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach Implementation Plan during an event for Native Fish Awareness Week.

The >Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach is an initiative of the Native Fish Strategy for the Murray-Darling Basin. The initiative aims to showcase improvements in native fish and riverine habitat, increase community awareness and involvement in river rehabilitation, and undertake research initiatives in the upper Murrumbidgee River near Canberra.

The launch will take place in association with brief presentations about the role the Native Fish Strategy and demonstration reaches have in improving freshwater habitat and native fish populations across the Murray-Darling Basin.

The theme for Native Fish Awareness Week this year is 'Fish Need Trees'! As such, at the launch there will also be an opportunity to get your hands dirty and plant a tree along the bank of the upper Murrumbidgee as part of the ACT Government's Million Trees climate change initiative!

For those able to attend I look forward to seeing you there!

When: 10:30 - 11:00am (with tree planting taking pace until 12:00pm), 17th November 2010

Where: Tharwa Sandwash Reserve.

Drive 2km south of Tharwa village along Naas Rd and turn left onto Smiths Rd. Follow Smiths Rd across the Gudgenby River and turn left into Tharwa Sandwash Reserve (see attached).

Please feel free to forward this invitation, all welcome.

PS: UMDR e-newsletter alert ...

For those unable to attend the launch you may be interested in the following! As part of our commitment to keeping community informed and up-to-date on the progress of native fish habitat improvement, community events, and research in the UMDR, in the coming months the first quarterly UMDR e-newsletter will be published. This will be available on the UMDR website (due for launch also on 17th Nov 2010), as well as via an email distribution list. If you would not like to keep up to date on activities along the bidgee demo reach please kindly reply with 'no UMDR e-newsletter' in the subject line.
